NEW RELEASE, ORDER HERE - DEEPA WISHES DADDY HAPPY BIRTHDAY To be featured in the New York Times Sunday Book Review SectionAll profits go to supporting the education of underprivileged children. How it all beganFrom Scotland to the US
Towards the end of 2013 I took up a management consulting assignment that meant I leave Edinburgh, where I was for 9 years, to be based in San Francisco. It also meant I would be away from my daughter Ila.
A Birthday Gift
Work in the US involved weekly travel. Ila’s birthday is on 31 Jan and I wanted to gift her something original and unique for her 4th. So I began to write this story that I would make up for her on the evenings it was my turn to put her to bed. The intention was to have a shutterfly book ready with my illustrations to support the narrative. Most of the writing took place usually on that 4pm United Airlines flight back from Chicago to San Francisco on Friday evenings.
And then
Somehow I had a thought…. “would it not be nice if children like Ila, who do not have the resources, be supported for education”. Subsequently, and I am not sure how, I got the inspiration to widen the scope of sharing the happiness of the birthday gift to support the education of children with fewer resources. Therefore now, for the first book titled ‘Deepa wishes daddy happy birthday’, all profits are dedicated to the cause of children’s education.
Oh, and by the way the shutterfly photo book was ready in time for Ila's birthday. You can see the image of the cover page in the Gallery Section.
